Alright, for those of you who haven't come across it yet, [rul=http://fretsonfire.sourceforge.net/FretsOnFire[/url] is a clone of Guitar Hero. I had tried it before and had great fun with it but there were only a handful of songs, none of which were known outside of the game.

Last weekend I was playing Guitar Hero in a friends house and I played until my eyes were closing from tiredness. Seriously...I was pathetic

When I got home the next day I looked up FretsOnFire again for a fix and was surprised to find out you can import Guitar Hero data into it. So off I went, got my hands on some and I'm happily playing it here with an upside-down keyboard.

Okay...it looks even more pathetic I admit but I am rocking out!

Anyone else tried it yet? Or Guitar Hero?

Not yet, but you can be sure I'll give it a try this weekend. What do I need to get started? (All I have right now is a beat up old strat and some patch cords)

Man that'd be sweet! Unfortunately it's more of a rhythm game but very amusing. I'm a guitarist myself with a stack of guitars in the same room so I thought I wouldn't enjoy this at all. Turns out I was wrong.

It's in the repositories for a couple of distros. Beyond that you just need your keyboard, which you hold as if it was a guitar. Kinda like an 80's Moog

To import from Guitar Hero you need to spend a few hours converting the data which can be done through FretsOnFire itself. Alternatively you can find prepared data online. Obviously this is of questionable legality so I won't post a link here but there are a few places to get it if you're devious enough.
