Olympic Games beginning

Is anyone else catching the Olympic opening ceremonies in Beijing right now? Pretty impressive from what I've seen. Anyone got a fave, going in? Any predictions?

The athletes and their abilities are inspiring but drowned out by the commercial and political symbolisms. The fact that this is all happening in China makes it difficult to take any of it seriously. I watched a part of the opening ceremonies. Yeah, real pretty and grandiose but it just makes me shake my head. I'll watch some of the events because i'm athletically inclined myself and it does feel good to see human greatness in action. Whether the games leave me feeling inspired or defeated depends on my mood at the time, however.

Only one Olympic Death uptil now, that because of doping.

The opening ceremony's great. Seems China has really put its whole money on that. The ground is small, I wonder how all teams would fit in.

I normally try to watch most of the events, usually the British don't do so well which is a little disappointing. The opening ceremonies are usually quite a spectacle. Unfortunately it is inevitable that politics will overshadow this event.

But as English people, we crave disappointment.

I haven't seen any Olympic events so far, and I have no intention of watching for some of the reasons mentioned above.

I wanna watch someone's shoes catch on fire this time.
In the last one (right?) the guy's shoes started smoking because he ran so fast.
I wish for once that an olympiad would wear Sonic the Hedgehog shoes.

I like watching people push things to new limits.

I love seeing athletes do great things, but I won't be watching this years events, I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that China had to remove dog meat from the Olympic restaurant menus to avoid "foreigner objection".
Why would anyone want to eat Benji??
