hemmm...
first you must create partitions for linux,
what operating system you use right now?
if windows, you can use partition magic to create linux partition, just resize your windows partition. you had a huge harddrive right?
just create 3 partition for linux:
1. partition with SWAP type, and it s size is twice of your RAM
2. partition with EXT3 type, for home partition, and the size is up to you but i prefer more than 4 GB
3. partition with EXT3 type, for root partition, and its size is, i prefer more than 7 GB to make sure you can install any add-on package for ubuntu later
4. boot your computer from CD/DVD
5. remember to choose 'custom layout' in partitioner menu. if you not do this, i am sure you will lose your precious data in your harrdrive, coz a standart installation of ubuntu will erase all data in your PC. one again, dont forget to choose 'custom layout' in partitioner menu.
6. in partitioner menu, choose partition you create before, and choose '/home' as mount point of your home partition, '/' as mount point of your root partition, and SWAP as your swap partition. you may format this 3 partition, but not the others....
7. next, all the rest is yours....
8. good luck
