I can't leave 'well enough' alone

I guess I just like to break things.

I spent part of the afternoon yesterday with KVM, trying to get a VM up & running. I first whacked Sabayon and put Hardy back on the drive. Nothing against Sabayon, I'm just more familiar with Ubuntu and wanted to focus on learning KVM, not Gentoo. Anyway, several attempts at setting up a WinXP VM were unsuccessful. I learned a few things, but didn't get the VM off the ground. Things went off the rails after windows' installer 'rebooted' after formatting. The VM apparently couldn't communicate with the CD after that point. Same basic thing when using an .iso image. Oh well, I'll back up and try again with a linux VM and see what the results are.

In the meantime, formerly functional aspects of Ubuntu have taken a dive. Can't change DNS server settings. Still experiencing sporadic DNS wierdness. Whacked drive. Reinstalled. Verified CD integrity. Memory integrity. Nada. Thought about enabling root login, but don't want to. I'm stubborn sometimes, and I know sudo, gksudo, gksu, or some similar permutation should give me privileges in 'network settings'. So... I'll keep banging at it 'til I figure out where my blind spot is. I'm having fun, at least.

However, I would like to learn more about KVM. Anyone here using it regularly? If so, how 'bout pointing me to some good materials on it. I must be phrasing my searches wrong, because all I get back are fluff pieces and comparo's that are way out of date.
THX!

Check out this site: libvirt: Wiki: Networking
Since you are using Ubuntu, refer to "Debian/Ubuntu Bridging" section.
