Hello World

Hello. After reading Linux magazines for 8 months, I've installed Ubuntu on my Lenovo laptop - works a treat!

I'd like to know if I get a special name or if I must learn any secret handshakes now? Also, do I have to speak penguin? I have a friend who is a puffin but I don't know how close that is to penguin.

I'm sure I'll have a million questions so TIA!!!

AB

hi, AB! Welcome to LinuxForums!

You will indeed need to become fluent in Penguin-speak. I'm gonna start calling it 'Tuxese'. I think it'll be the the next big thing around here

Seriously though, welcome aboard, and come on with the questions!

Don't worry about speaking Penguin for now. As soon as you start using things like 'ls -alh', iptables, fstab and /dev/hdc in sentences you know that only the select few can understand you. Just watch out for Black Helicopters.

See Batman Returns with Dani De Vito in the role of Penguin, if you like the bad-penguin style!!

Welcome on board Alexander, hope you enjoy being here and enjoy using Linux.

I'm sorry, but you don't get to learn the 'secret handshake' until you're an advanced user If you want your own special Linux name, how about 'Mr Barnes', that should separate you nicely from the rabble that use lesser operating systems...

And to speak penguin, you need to learn phrases like 'yum remove totem; yum install vlc'. Of course, Debian/Ubuntu and Gentoo users have different regional dialects...
