Hey there, im boon,
Right now i run not my fav OS ever, vista, but since a few nights ago, ive been convinced that Linux could be better to fit my needs of computing in my life. It may have been at a LAN comp, but Linux really impressed me with it's speed and it doesn't treat you like your a noob like vista would.
But the problem is, i know nothing about vista and the person who convinced me to Linux said i should stuff around on a VPC, but yet im not great with that. If any1 could help me lift through Linux, it would be awesome, and i understand alot about computers, but not every aspect as far as yet, but I'm always interested.

Hi, Boonanza! Welcome to LinuxForums!
You're probably going to want to go for a dual-boot system to begin with. Try taking a look at this poll to catch an opinion of what some of us think is a good choice for a new user. You can also take the Distro Quiz to help you figure out what you would like to try out. they can be found here and here. Should you choose to install, Linux will see the Windows installation and guide you through the set-up for dual-boot. Post if you have any questions.
Again, welcome to the boards!

I took the Distro test and as i read through some pages as i googled them as Ubuntu being the best to start with, i got the same result in the quiz. Still im not quite as certain on how dual-booting will affect my computer since im have not depthed enough into this particular area.
If any1 could link me a guide or a page about dual-booting and how to configure it and what certain files i need to have to install ubuntu, seeing i know very little about linux OS', it would be most appreciated.

Welcome to the forums!
Most distributions give you a chance during the installation to select the option to dual boot. It's all setup for you automatically, for the most part.
Start another thread in the proper forum should you have any problems.
Have fun with it!
