I had to use Vista twice. On a Core 2 Duo with 2gb of ram and Geforce 8800 it looked a bit fast, to say the truth...
On a Pentium 4 2.8ghz with 1gb ram though, it was pure insanity!! It would take 2-3 MINUTES to boot, then 5-10 minutes to install 4 updates...

I found this picture on this blog:

Vista FUD? « Linux FUD

Although I have my own ideas about Vista (based on real but limited experience), I am looking forward to read your rant about it.

Although I have my own (admittedly biased) views of Vista, I gotta say I'm looking forward to this.

I am biased against vista, but I will be looking forward to seeing the rant on this.

Weather this bags the hell out of vista or not I think that it will be a great read.

In my own experience it's not as bad as some people have made it out to be but it's not something I'd use. It seems inconsistent. I've seen it run perfectly on a 1.73GHz Core 2 Duo with 1GB of RAM only to be a complete flop on a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo. It seems really odd.

One thing I continually stress to people is not to disable UAC. I have people whinging that it's annoying and pointless. It goes without saying these are 'power users' who know everything about computers, but somehow have spyware ridden machines and twenty-plus applications on startup. You know the types, the same people who judge what kind of user they are by the level of access they have on their computer

Well, I got the box this morning and it came with 2 DVDs: one 32-bit and one 64-bit. My plan of action is to try an in-place upgrade from XP Home first, play with it a bit, then do a 64-bit clean install.

I am biased as well. Knowing your rants, techieMoe, I trust you to give Vista a fair chance. I'm looking forward to reading

Just FYI, guys and gals, this one's probably going to be the longest rant I've ever done. I'm only halfway through (end of the 32-bit install) and it's already longer than my Dell Customer Service rant.
