    Is it the first time you use Linux? Because Gentoo is considered a hardcore distribution (you compile most things, etc). The 2 persons i know of and are using Gentoo, are considered more or less to be Linux gurus.
    Try an easier distro for beginning, such as Ubuntu, OpenSuse, Mandriva or Fedora and when you learn more things about using Linux you can go for a distro like Gentoo.
