Learning the Hard Way
A week ago I saved my home folder files on a DVD because I had to re-install my os. Today I tried to transfer the photos I saved from the DVD into my new home folder. I encountered problems; so I did not try to force the issue.
I still had the photo cd's I could put the photos in from the drug store cd's. I put the first cd into my computer and the prompt came up asking if I wanted to import the photos. Just then a little TechieMoe bell rang in my head and instead of importing the photos I browsed the cd. There were eleven files on the cd. Some of the files were in folders and some displayed what I call " the green footprint of death " that indicate a program that remains a secret.
Only one folder contained the pictures; so that is All I transfered into my computer from each disk.
I'm not going to try and discover what DCIM, Shop Data, Others, Autorun INF, Photoviewer.exe, Photoviewer..ICO, Volinfo.txt, or Snapfireplus 120_EN_CVSSE. ( EXE, UPDATE.EXE, DVD_UPDATE.EXE, ) do to the computers that they are put into but they will not be doing it to mine anymore. What a Bummer!!!Linux registered user # 414321

Photo CDs usually come with (Windows) software that let you see the photos.
Autorun.inf will automatically run the viewer that comes with the disc.If we hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate! (Zapp Brannigan)
My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

I do not play music cd's in my computer anymore because a program got dowloaded into my computer from one. That was the last time that I had to get my hard drive reformated. I forgot to be leery of cd's. I don't think I'll forget anymore.
I am thankful that my os would not copy the photo files from the DVD. I only needed the pictures and my Linux os displays them very well even though the pictures were taken using film in an inexpensive camera.Linux registered user # 414321
