Thanks for letting me be a part of this forum. I'm just a little old lady learning Linux out of the box. That's using an Asus 900 and loving it....

Hi OOTB,
Welcome to Linuxforums!

I live on the other side of the peninsula. Hoping now that Hanna blows herself out quickly. We're just now drying out from Fay.
So how do you like your 900? Are you by any chance running wireless internet on it?

Yes and no. The wifi in open areas works like a charm. At home I cannot get it to logon but it ia not a problem as the 900 allows me to hard wire to the router. call th isp and they were not able to bring it online - must be a linux thing. They sent me to the ruoter manufacturer and they tried but I ran out of time and they suggested calling Asus. It is not a problem as I said the notebook can be hard wired. My other notebooks using Windows is working. I didn't install the router my husband let the cable guy do it so I am not exactly sure what happend. I need to create a home network anyway and will just start over when i do. thanks for the interest

Bah I say! Never settle for mediocrity, you paid for it so let's get it working

If you are using WPA as your encryption type, it seems there is a problem with this on the EeePC. Check out this link for a fix!

OK i think we have a winner right out ot the gate.
However I cannot change anything at this moment. My husband has bonded with the compters he uses ans it is very difficult for me to make changes to this current mess of computers. I have to be able to make these changes quickly and effetively. Sometimes I wonder if this is training to work in the industry (ha ha).
let me understan what you are saying. The correct setting is the wep not the wpa. I don't understand why the cable guy picke teh wpa anyway.
If I make that change I have to reset the wifi i each of his lap tops - is that correct?

Nope, that fix is confined to the wireless settings on the Eee PC only.
