Yes, I've been eagerly awaiting this particular ending to see what will happen, as well.

I was watching a History Channel documentary about the end of the world and it mentioned quite a few of these. One (which I found particularly amusing) was a group of protestant parishioners in the early 20th century who followed their preacher's prediction of the end of the world not once (when it inevitably failed) but TWICE (since he conveniently recalculated it). I wish I could remember the name of the guy...

Found it! The Millerites. It was the 19th century. Ok, so I was off a hundred years or so...

Trying not to veer too far off topic...

I've wondered, if the world should end would those aboard the international space station have to sit there knowing what happened until they themselves die, or would they have some kind of poisonous capsules on hand for such emergencies?

Of course the end of the world could easily reach out there and take them with it, depending on how the world goes.

Sounds like good stuff for another sci-fi movie.

In my opinion, physically the end of the (human world) will happen, when all the Arctic ice shall be molten, and the the descending streams of cold water stops to work. Most of the marine life shall extinct, as well as the terrestrial fauna due to the poisonous gases from the Oceans. But it has nothing with LHC.

Oh, the horrors, the horrors that have been wrought on the world from "end of the world" movies....

    Deep Impact (1998)
    The Core (2003)
    Lifeforce (1985)

Ok... so that last one was actually pretty funny in an unintentionally campy way, and had a lovely clothes-averse leading lady. I guess they're not all bad.
