    Hello peoples!

Hey all! I am a newbie-- new to this forum and especially to Linux. So, as you can imagine, I feel almost like a little kitten tossed outside for the first time-- trying to discover a scary new world and approaching everything with a wide-eyed curiosity... and some fear.

    Meow???

Okay. I'm exaggerating, aren't I? ...Just a bit, maybe? I've always been a bit over-dramatic. Linux isn't so scary; Right? I choose the Slackware distribution from its reputation as being the toughest from the bunch, and when I say "tough" I mean being more difficult to learn.. I figure if I can get a firm grasp with THIS distribution, then the others would be easier to work with-- should I ever have to deal with them.

So, why have I started this affair with Linux? I'll be honest-- sneaking off to play with my Linux box while Windows XP is sleeping just a few feet away is kinda exciting. I've been married to Windows far too long and thoughout the years she has become too concieded. Her "Fisher Price" enviroment has taken all the fun out of learning, and I needed something... ANYTHING... to bring back the excitement and the desire to learn. My beautiful Linux does that for me.

I've been aware of Linux from the start, but was always too shy to approach her and introduce myself. However, my unhappiness grew to a monster that I could no longer contain and it eventually broke me down, devoring all that was left of my hope and dreams for something better. And it was and this time--as I was about to give up--that Linux appoched ME. I was nervous at first; Afraid Windows might catch me and Linux cuddling in the dark courner of the room. I tapped so gently on the keyboard that lay in my lap as I crouched down there in the dark, trying to keep my interest in Linux invisible to Windows. I felt dirty and cheap... and that felt good. I felt good.

    Anyway... I'm rambling. Sorry.

This a$$-flavored coffee makes me sick; Who brewed this sh1t anyway? Tastes like Bigfoot blew bubbles in the pot with his anus. Blah.

    Gotta work.

    Welcome to the forums!

Choosing Slackware cuz of it's difficult reputation is a bold move. But once you're in the config files editing your machine to a state of perfection, you'll find this new found focus of your affection has taken pains to leave you little notes, little personal comments and a number of jokes throughout the system.

Learn about vim. It's your most important tool.

That's just disgusting! Throw that coffee away and brew a new pot.

    Welcome to the forums!

Yes, vi/vim is a great text editor for working with command line oriented distros such as Slackware.

Run vimtutor to get a quick lesson on it.

Above all, have fun with Linux!

Ahhh, yes.... vim. I have been using vim for editing; however, I haven't had the time to really dig into it and see all the editor can do. Thanks for the link, I'll jump there and check it out. I've been spending most my free time reading Slackbook and trying to get the basics down. Fun stuff!
