    Hello all.

I'm fairly new to Linux and have decided to give it a full go.

I have changed all 3 laptops at home from XP to ubuntu.

I have one old laptop that I will need loads of help with, it does not have a CD drive so I will need help installing linux (possibly DSL) from a USB pendrive.

I'm sure that I will have loads of questions in the next few months, so please be patient.

    Hi,

Welcome to Linux! If you want to install via a pendrive, you need to make sure that the bios will let you boot from one. here is a site you may find useful.
    Distribution: Archlinux
    Processor: 3 x Amd 64 bit
    Ram: 4 GB
Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT

    Talking Advise appreciated

The laptop is a very old Compaq Presario 1245.

What would be the best to use on such an old machine?
    Would DSL be the answer?

It depends on the specs/hardware in the laptop. You can also check out this poll for some opinions about what may run well on older hardware.
