    Talking A Penguin is hatched

    Greetings!

I am a newly hatched penguin on this forum.

Linux and me have an on/off history where it was a rocky road for a while, but now the road has smoothed out.

I was experimenting with Linux back in my Redhat 5 days, tried some old Slackware, then Mandrake 8.2 - which was nice, into Mandrake 10 - nicer than 8.2 in some ways, also Slackware 10 - which is cool, and poked around with a little FreeBSD 5.2.1 which is both fun and strange, and currently I have found Debian which is my favorite distro as of late.

Currently have a multiboot platform of Debian-etch, Mandake 10, FreeBSD 5.2.1, Win2k, XP, Win98, and even Win3.1 for kicks. Thinking of adding Gentoo to see what it is like with all the configs/compiles for learning more.

I am big on experimenting with technical boundaries of software and hardware - for fun.

I have a mix of smart/caveman experience with Linux. I am reasonable with bash scripts, have some knowledge of configs, compiling, and am just stumbling into some glade/c programming.

This new (to me) Debian is so perfect. Its the first distro in which everything works without major issues. I had some config tweaks and sifting thru software choices to contend with, but I like learning the ropes, and this has helped me to understand how some of it works. Still an ongoing process, but I hope to be of help where I can and to get help also. Cheers.

    Welcome aboard.

    Nice tagline.
For me, Debian was the distribution of GNU/Linux that hooked me in, too. It's the perfect mixture of "runs well out of the box" and "lets you fiddle where you want to".
Debian GNU/Linux -- You know you want it.

I love Debian - and used it for quite a while. But it is frustrating always having out-of-date software. If you want to live life more on the edge, and have a faster distro, try Sidux, which is basically a turbo-charged Debian unstable.
