    Tired Linux newbie says hello

Hi folks. It's been a long somewhat frustrating night.

After years of working with WIndows on my PCs, I decided to install Ubuntu Linux on my home-built PC. (I still have my main Macintosh computer, and my Windows Vista Notebook.)

Linux seems to be pretty good... and fast.. but I just wish there were more graphical applications to help me format my second (SATA) hard drive, manage files & folders, etc.

At any rate... I just wanted to say hello... Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

    Hello and Welcome!

Depending on the distro, there should be some form of graphical file manager (like Nautilus in Fedora) to help you manage folders and such. And for a graphical format program, I like to use Gparted.

    See you around!

Thanks, folks. It's good to see you!

I tried gparted, and it seemed to work.. but then I was not able to do anything with the drive.

I supposedly have Nautilus installed, but can't seem to find it.

It's time to get some sleep.

Nautilus is the graphical file manager that comes with Ubuntu. Just click on your home folder or go to places->home or places->filesystem.

Actually, Ubuntu has a program to manage partitions preinstalled! It is on System->Administration->Partition editor. Be careful with it though, because as you may already know from partition magic or fdisk, any mistake you make to partitions will cost your data...So backup before you use such programs.
