Need a jumpstart for a new job :-)

    Hi all!

I just got an offer for a software QA job for a company that writes Linux based software. I've been doing sw qa for the last few years, but I haven't touched Linux in my life. They know it, but I want to have something to go on when I start there in three weeks.

I'm a power Win user/tech and looking for 1-2 books (preferably something in print, but ebooks will do too) I can concentrate on to jump-start myself to Linux world in couple of weeks, something that covers *nix basics, commands, some scripting.

Any specific suggestions would be greatly appreciated! (but please don't suggest pages with "200 best free linux ebooks", i wouldn't know what's good on those lists)

    Welcome to the forums!

Running Linux by O'Reilly is considered by most to be one of the best for covering the basics.

After the linux 'man pages', O'Reilly is probably the most well know source for linux documentation and manuals. And they now make most of their titles available in an online format, for those of us who prefer instant gratification.

Linux for Dummies and Linux Programming for Dummies. (Don't laugh... pretty good stuff there!)

I do not respond to Private Messages asking for Linux help. Please, keep it on the public boards.
