    Question Photoshop on Linux?

    Hello all,

I have kept Windows in use for quite a long time now (hence I have not posted anything since months) but I miss the KDE desktop. I mainly use:

XAMPP, Eclipse (I remember something about opening it once!), plus now I was playing with Photoshop. I don't like GIMP, nor GNOME or XFCE now. I bet Mandriva has some trace of Photoshop. Or not? Correct me please.

I will be using Mandriva now, not Ubuntu.

Thanks in advanc efor the suggestion.

If you look on this table of Equivalents, about half way down you'll find some options.

Hey Jayd512. What are you doing to us.... that is a reported attack site according to google. For malicious software downloading...

This site may allow you to download alternatives to Microsoft software. This is considered malicious*

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

My question... Can something that Microsoft considers to malicious really be all that bad?

You can use Photoshop CS2 with WINE. Another app to try is Krita.

Wine stinks. I have had bad experience with Linux equivalents to Graphics Designing progs. I am going to stick to dual boot technique as always.

If you don't like WINE and you have had bad experience with most of the Linux graphics apps you have tried, then indeed dual booting maybe the best solution for you. I don't use WINE very often, but I have had great success running some Windows programs in the past (recently I used it to try out Google Chrome and it worked fine).

Thanks, and that's what I am doing. Actually Wine does not stink that much. I have run day-to-day apps (the name I use for little and slek software!!) using Wine and they function. But its useless on large and heavy programs as my Linux box is already slow on picking up even native versions of them.

If "Wine stinks", then why did you ask us if Photoshop could be run on linux? Of course a Windows executable can not be run natively in linux. Did you maybe think that Adobe released a linux version of CS3 and just forgot to advertise it?

    thanks,

I tested off the charts for MENSA. Unfortunately, it was off the wrong end of the chart.

there is a product that uses wine that has photoshop working beautifully called Crossover Office. they tune their product to use photoshop and some other programs commenly used. now that was on version 6 or 7 dont know about CS. Though trying wine would be a easier cheaper way to go.
