Hi to all... new to linux, have been inspired to see what it's all about due to the constant freezing and crashing of windows...
I am using ubuntu on an old laptop and want to try fedora on my newer more powerful laptop.
i'm interested in making contact with other more experienced users and linux programming pro's thru such mediums as skype or an I.M. like pidgin to discuss getting going with linux in a quicker fashion. ( my typing isn't too fast at the moment, so using voice would help a great deal...)
i would like to know what books are the best for learning about linux from it's origins, that explain what it means when applications are named with a K at the beginning, what gnome is, which are the most feature rich and stable alternatives to windows app's, and so on...
if you are inclined to contact me for many questions, it would be great to hear from you!...

Hope you don't mind me replying here, but it might help a few people to read this as well.

If you look at my signature (look for the red text at the bottom of this post), you can see that I'm advertising our IRC channel at #linuxforums on freenode. To join us, follow these instructions,
1/ Install this addon to firefox
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/16
2/ Then copy and paste this address into your firefox address bar :
chrome://chatzilla/content/chatzilla.xul
3/ Type "/attach freenode" in the bar at the bottom.
4/ Then type "/join #freenode".
5/ Give it a minute, and you'll be able to chat to lots of linux experts live!
