    which distribution?

    Hi everybody,
I'm a newbie in linux and searching for a distribution for my notebook(fujitsu siemens amilo m 512MBram 1,6MHz centrino 40GB) and my eee 4G.
Can anybody tell me what would be the best choice?
It should work with my hardware and should not be to complicated.

    Many thanks in advance!

There are several user friendly ones that you can try. Download and try the live discs of Ubuntu, Mandriva and openSUSE.

    tbergfeld,

    Welcome to Linuxforums!

Someone else may be able to assist you better with a recommendation, but in the meantime you might check our "Linux on Laptops" forum. Try the sticky, "Links for Laptops" at the top. The first site that comes to mind for me is Linux on Laptops, not to be confused with the aformentioned forum. Good luck with it. I hope it gives you the info you need.

    Welcome to the forums!

Probably any of the distros in the top 20 or so at DistroWatch.com would work, but none are guaranteed to work without some extra effort.

Since Ubuntu is currently at the very top of the list, I agree that would be a good place to start.

Best of luck with your efforts, and I hope you enjoy Linux.

I would suggest Mepis, only because it detected my wifi (atheros).
I tried a bunch of other distros to no avail. However you will likely have
to mess with it a bit.

ubuntu is a good choice.. i used redhat for my 1st distro when i was getting into linux but once you gain more knowledge you start to narrow down your choices of which OS you like to use.
