    hi...i suppose you don't actually HAVE an RHCE certification... you can't be new to linux after passing that examination :P anyway, i'm a newbie myself and i found "running linux" & "linux cookbook" from o'reilly publications quite helpful.. My agenda is something like this:

    1) learn a few stuff on how linux is organized and structured
    2) learn how to manage accounts/permissions/sudoers
    3) learn networking basics
    4) snoop around (be careful so as not to do anything stupid-irreversible.. i crashed my fedora 9 first week i got it... kmod-nvidia+x configuration prob :P )
    5) if you're really that into it (i, for example just LOVE using gnome-terminal... always had a thing for command prompts :P ) and you're sure you've covered all the basic admin.issues try some bash scripting.. you will love it... i created my first working script yesterday and i'm psyched :P (previous test scripts don't count)
    6) learn how to boot in different runlevels... in case something goes terribly wrong (with x most of the times :P ), this knowledge will come in handy
    7) learn how to install programs ANY way {including from source}
    8] learn WELL the most handy tools: sed/awk/vim/regular expressions etc..

    we both have extremely long ways to go before we become gurus (:P ) that kind of experience only comes with time & a LOT of effort... but i suppose my agenda is a good way to start (will get you to medium level definitely, i suppose)

    any thoughts/other suggestions by anyone more experienced?

    If you're both looking for some beginner's reference material, try these links.
