Linxu newbie(s) trying to make a DISTRO

hey..i know u guys might mock us..but i have assembled around 10 guys to form a linux club in our college (all are newbies in linux....). We are thinking of making a DISTRO that might be covering on issues lacking in red hat or other big distros..
are we kidding ourselves???pls advise...
and if we are not..where do we start...
we dont lack man power or skill and we are willing to slog it out...
give us advice as to what all is lacking in big distros which can be improved...
your advice is eagerly expected and appreicated
thanks in advance..

best bet is to all of you install gentoo, then delete it, then install LFS (linux from scratch) after that you will have a general understanding of the core of linux and from there, its up to you on how to procede, innovation is always welcome in the open source world, and best o luck on you quest!

Basically you have to determine what group of people you want to target. Then you can assimilate what you want to do with the distro. As qub said, installing Gentoo (stage1) and LFS will give you a good idea of how Linux works on the inside. Then you can procede from there.

Ask yourselves questions like "Who do we want to target?" and "What would I want if I was our target audience?". I personally don't think that there is any distro that's lacking. You can find what you want in different distros. And if you can't, there's Gentoo, which is what you make it.

Well, I'm working on the same thing, but on my own
I started on LFS, but decided to install Gentoo first (which I will begin to do one of the following months).
