suport for it's included in the 2.6 kernel but i don't know about support for the things that use it.
Well, I'll find out as soon as the Doom 3 client comes out, and let you all know. *note specs in signature*

It all depends on the bells & whistles you want.

You can get a very nice mobo with onboard SATA, raid controllers etc...

Take a look here.

Newegg has a very nice selection of pc parts and in the past 3 years that I've been dealing with them have only recieved one bad part and was able to RMA it and got the new one before I was even able to send the dead one back.

And yes, 800 fsb is a good thing. As well as dual channel ram.

Erm...that's an Athlon board, not Opteron.

If you want multiple processors, go with Tyan. They are pretty much the best manufacturer of consumer-level server boards.

If you end up going single proc., ASUS is teh shit.

FSB doesn't matter with an AMD64/Opteron as the RAM controller is on the die. This makes the northbridge and FSB non-existant.

If you get an AMD64 (not Opteron), go with the socket 939, as the socket 754 is old/nonexistant anymore.

Actually if you scroll down you will see Opteron mobo and other baords for AMD 64 bit cpus.

Than link is for all ASUS boards. Not just Athlon based baords.

I swear that the rest of that page didn't load the first time I looked at it.
