    Virus Threat

Ran the virus scanner in Ubuntu 8.04- picked up the following-

    IPMapSetup.exe Trojan.Agent55637

This bugger hijacked an email account and sent out spam to everyone.

Give it a check- and hopefully someone will have an update to block this pest.

    Guess nothing's 100% perfect!

Wha? That's an .exe that's not going to run under Linux.

Did you run it under Wine or something?

You can get any type of file downloaded to your system, but an .exe will not *execute* under Linux.

Here is a guy who tried to infect himself with Windows virii using the Wine emulator and even that wasn't successful.

Golly Gosh, my troll sensors are tingling.

Google is a great resource for finding out about virus, since anti-virus companies try to keep their sites up to date with virus removal techniques and definitions. And the ONLY thing that this file brings up is this

This is a Mask IP software which is used to change your real Internet address while browsing. The software will deliver you fresh anonymous proxy servers every time you decide to click on "Get IP Locations". The main benefit of this software is that you can't be traced when browsing websites. Also if a website is restricted for users from specified country the program can bypass that protection. By hiding your IP you will prevent receiving spam from marketers which know your interests by tracking your IP when browsing websites. You can use web based e-mail to send anonymous e-mail. Post on bulletin boards without displaying your real IP address.

Doesn't baffle me. Linux won't run an .exe file extension without some sort of emulator.

    I'm with you Geeth...

Does this mean you use Windows some of the time and this could have been the cause of the issue?
Was a virus found on a Windows partition?
Have you downloaded something in Ubuntu and then run using either Windows or Wine?
