Fedora 10 Preview: Intel GMA owners rejoice!
I've got the Fedora 10 Preview running on my Thinkpad T61, and everything is working great. If you've used Fedora 9 with an Intel GMA X3100, or another distribution with the "old" DRI2 you'll know what I'm talking about when I say that the 3-D performance is sub-par.
Fedora 10's "intel" driver includes Intel's new GEM code. While most of the bells and whistles and benefits of your Intel GMA are not taken advantage of yet, the 3-D performance with Firefox and multiple windows open is smooth and crisp, just like my desktop's NVidia 8800.
Fedora 10 also includes a new graphical boot, known as Plymouth, and modifications have been made to readahead to improve boot time. I'm definitely looking forward to this release, as it looks to be very very promising compared to the lackluster bugfilled Fedora 9 release.
