Kia Ora from Kiwiland (NZ), I have been a Windows man to date, but having a curious mind and Scottish genealogy, on one side anyhow, and being on a pension, I decided it was time to get more serious about Linux. So I got out my old Knoppix CD some mate had given me and loaded it, fine, that's good. But I wanted a full Gcompris for my kids, yeah I am an old dad, but all I got was the condensed job. Then I found out online that I would need the DVD version to get the complete version of Gcompris. So I did that using Bit Torrent. Before I went to bed last night it had downloaded, using ADSL+, about 15 %, so I said my prayers to Lord Geek and went to sleep. Lo and behold this morning there was no sign of Knoppix on the Bit Torrent but it was on my desktop, but playmates, when I passed the wand over it it only showed some 800+ kb. I shrugged and thought sh..this bit torrent file is really compressed! Then I slid it in the tray, restarted and uh oh Windows restarted not Knoppix Live DVD. Pass me the poison.
Anyway after recovering, I also successfully downloaded Gcompris full version, thinking without thinking I would load it into my LiveCD Knoppix, but nothing happened on Package Manager. It could not find it. Then the old pre-decimal coinage penny dropped, and I thought, " I can't install into a live CD, so that must be the problem.
Any comments, and suggestions? I know, I could buy the CD or DVD with Gcompris already on it. Well that is down lower on my shopping list, after the wine.

Reason: small change from on
Thanks to Edit and Jay, I will look into both. Done. Edubuntu is best bet, as eduknoppix is in Italian and I have not been able to reassure myself that on installation you have an English option. but it does have the benefit of being standalone live CD whereas the Edubuntu has to sit on the Ubuntu CD, or something like that.
I am currently doing an ISO download of Knoppix liveDVD, and now I think I will also do an ISO download of the latest Ubuntu and Edubuntu. I don't really need the Knoppix one now, but as I am over a third of the way along, I will stick at it and keep it for a rainy day. More GB to pay for, but at NZ$1 per GB it is no great expense, and think of the creative experience!
