Today I realized...

Today I reallized that I am starting to become a true convert to Linux. I have two computers. One is a desktop and one is a laptop. The desktop runs LInux and the laptop rune XP. I use my desktop most of the time. I went to delete a program on my laptop, and for some reason I could not do it through the add/remove programs function in the Control Panel. Without any other options, I went to delete the program manually using WIndows Explorer. I was able to delete all the files except one. After getting mad at the machine and trying a few different things, I had an uncontrollable urge to open the msdos prompt, which I did.

Thinking back on the incident, I realized that the moment I went for the msdos prompt, my Linux conversion was starting to show through. I never did get the file to delete, but I did not work on it very long. WIth Linux I would not have had this problem. I would have logged in with "su" and deleted whatever I wanted - good or bad, right or wrong. I have only been a Linux user for a couple of months, but dang, I'm sold on it.

I look forward to the day when I know as much about Linux as some of you guys know.

Congrats! After completely switching to Linux and running it for some two years without any Windows interference... I cant even look at Windows at this point.

Haha...kinda makes you all warm and fuzzy inside, doesn't it?

My roommate's gf's laptop was borking up this summer...it wasn't recognizing any CDs/DVDs in the combo drive. So I uninstall the driver, reinstall. Didn't fix it. Rebooted to Knoppix and was like, "The drive works...It's Windows screwing up." I just can't bring myself to troubleshoot on Windows anymore..it's such a great feeling.

Yes I must admit, there are a few times I've opened up the M$ Dos command prompt and typed 'su' or 'ls'

I actauly do that all the time, I have no clue how to work windows. infact its kinda sad but i have witten several a program in java to perform simple functions in MS simply becuase i cannot figure out that darn convoluted system settings windows. I mean sure, if you want to add a user is simple, but installing a new driver is like multivariable calc while synchronised swimming, i mean good god.

You use a calculator for multivariable calculus? Wimp.

Anyway...back OT...I've often told someone to type ifconfig at a DOS prompt. I regularly draw blanks trying to remember where you configure "x" in Windows. I'm glad to be to the point where I can tell people that I really can't fix their computers (unless they run Linux, of course).

Hehe, so, thats what happening to me! I am using the cmd prompt in windows more and more, but i prefer bash, it has more control. I remember when i could enjoy a computer without games, it was around the time of DOS, CLI's rule, down with the GUI (to a certain extent)
