I would recommend Ubuntu or Fedora. You can perform an entire installation in a couple easy steps. They are great distributions for a new Linux user coming from another OS.
Good Luck

Howdy and Welcome. I suggest Simply Mepis as a good 1st distro to try.

Vista home premium Ubuntu 8.10
Its cool im a noob too. I just switched from Vista to ubuntu last night. Spur of the moment too. I wiped out everything I had. No regrets though, I like it so far, but Im still trying to get a feel for it. Im going to start messing around with some programming when i get the hang of linux. I'll probably start with Perl.
