Well... at least I'll be up to speed on it when the final release makes its debut!

It's amazing what a distro announcement can do for its hit ranking at DistroWatch. For the last several months, CRUX has languished in the 100 to 125 range getting anywhere between 22 and 45 hits per day.

With the 2.5 release candidate announcement yesterday, (and with news of the latest CRUX PPC version, also recently announced), CRUX today is at number 63 for the month with 120 average daily hits. For the last 7 days it ranks 28th with average daily hits at 344!!

Have you ever installed one of the release candidates? Or do yo just wait for the final product to hit the streets?

I usually wait for the final, but the install CD is so minimal, you gotta wonder how much could be so different that it could go so wrong that it couldn't be straightened out fairly easily. To get a head start, I might just go ahead and install this release candidate if I run out of other things to do... meaning, I probably won't get around to it until after the final is released!

    Update:

In the last seven days, CRUX is ranked 13th at DistroWatch with an average of 629 page hits.

    I'm amazed...

I love it! I think I'll do something that I swore I would never do... Install what is pretty much a BETA OS... Dan, I may have some questions!

Since it's RC1, I don't know if I'll be of any help! They've had a history of releasing the final fairly soon after the RC candidates so I may wait for final. I give CRUX 2.2, three and a half stars. CRUX 2.3, four and a half... CRUX 2.4, four stars. Here's hoping CRUX 2.5 is five stars!

A mere 7 days after RC1 came out, and in that week CRUX has moved right on up the ladder to #11 with 661 H.P.D.!

CRUX 2.5 final just released. See the full story here, or the official announcement here.

Note: In the official announcement and subsequent posts, the bug report about gcc not compiling correctly that jayd512 initiated was referenced along with the solution that is included in the final release. Way to go Jay!
