The Day the Earth Stood Still - Trailers and Videos
I seriously doubt that the remake will be as good as the classic version from 1951, but then there's not much good stuff coming out of Hollywood these days, anyway.
Hopefully, it will prove to be better.

I am interested in seeing this one. I liked the original, but the kind of kumbaya pacifism of Gort didn't resonate with me. From the trailer for the new one it looks like they're taking a harder approach. In the original, the idea that Gort was here to destroy Earth was downplayed. I'm curious to see how having it emphasized will change the mood of the film.

I'm a huge fan of the original. I doubt I would have changed anything about it, so while I'll often look forward to a remake of an old film I think this is one that I'll be very picky about. Hell I even like Keanu Reeves. But I already expect him to miss the point on this.
Ah well, at least it'll guarantee the old film gets a bit more airtime on TV stations around release time and maybe introduce another generation to the original.
Hey how about a remake of Forbidden Planet!? Oh wait they did that...it was called Star Trek

Speaking of which, there is a new Star Trek movie coming out this May.
This one will be based in a period when Kirk and Spock were much younger. The fellow playing Spock looks quite a bit like the original, but of course younger, and the fellow playing Kirk only slightly resembles the original character. Looks interesting, though.oz

I saw the trailer for that. I'm quite interested to see that...I'm sure it'll upset a lot of fans no matter what it does so I'm willing to see what they have to offer and with an open mind going into it.

I might have to catch the new "The Day The Earth Stood Still" on Netflix. I'm also a huge fan of the original and would likely have a difficult time attempting to appreciate the remake of such a classic based on what I've seen from the trailer.
The trailer for the new Star Trek film looks very cool though. That's one I'll definitely go see in the theatre. Always a sucker for a good war movie, I'm also anxious to see "Valkyrie" with Tom Cruise.

I'm conflicted about Valkyrie. I saw the trailer and the plot looks very interesting. Unfortunately, I despise Tom Cruise as a person and I'm having trouble accepting the idea of paying money to see a movie made by him and his personal movie company. I may rent it when it comes out.

I know what you mean. He hasn't yet reached Barbara Streisand or Alec Baldwin status with me... two "stars" I won't pay good money to see in any film.
While we're at it, I'm also interested in seeing "The Spirit." It looks as though they've experimented with some interesting and innovative film techniques. I used to read "The Spirit" comics, (reprints of the originals) when I was a kid. Will Eisner was a great comic artist and story teller. Those comics are a joy to read even today.Last edited by Dapper Dan; 12-05-2008 at 02:48 PM.

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.
