Hi from Ricard
Hi everyone,
New on this forum, although have been using Linux for 10+ years by now. Since I work with Linux at work, don't do much hacking at home in order to get a bit of balance in my life. I work at Axis Communications here in Lund, Sweden, we manufacture network cameras based on a Linux platform.
I tend to use 99% Linux at home. Used to be a couple of things I'd like to do in Windows, but almost everything I want to do I can do (and do better) under Linux. It's stable and it works. I don't have time to mess around with weird problems that seem to plague the Windows world, I want a system that works. And Microsoft's licencing policies can drive me up the wall; installed extra memory in parents' computer (Windows XP), and had to 'activate' the upgrade at Microsoft. Give me a break. Today I would probably put Debian on their machine (would be good enough for whatever they do) and avoid the hassle.
Mostly use an IBM laptop these days, although I've kept my old trusty Pentium II machine from 1998 as a backup machine. I'm actually impressed what the old machine can do running a recent Debian distro, play videos, burn DVD's, edit audio. It's slow but not painful by any stretch.
Other interests include railroading (full scale and models) and electronic music. My 3.5 year old son also keeps me busy.
Well, all for now.
/Ricard
