Don't get me wrong, i'm all for standards and for good competition, but i'm not a big fan of any of the distros in the list given in that article.
I understand that this appears to specifically targeted toward business systems, but a lot of business practices go into the workstation distro's as well.
And if driver companies do start releasing linux versions, then they might stop handing out their specs. I can remember a few cases where
hacked" drivers work much better than the drivers from the companies.
I just hope this is done in such a way that our "freedom of choice" is not obstructed. |
the idea is to bring the distro's together so they are more compatible and Linux will be a better OS
