Time to Learn
Hey-loooooooooooo.
I've been wanting to get into Linux for a while now but I recently (4 months ago) had a friend who had put it on his computer and had really bad experiences. I just took his word for it and never bothered switching over. Then, I came across a book titled "Worldchanging." It talked about how open-sourced software was made by a bunch of geeks and was helping out less developed countries because most of the software was free. So I thought, "hmm.. I want to become one of those geeks (again)."
I'm 20 years old now from, just south of, Toronto, Canada. I used to be really into learning about how computers worked and a lot about them but once I got my 60+ hour a week job for the last two years I haven't really had much time to do anything else. Now that I've quit, I've taken a trip over to Maui, Hawaii where I am right now working on a farm - and there's not much to do here. So, while reading this book I thought it would be a good idea to tinker around with Linux and here I am.
I'm a complete noooob though now and pretty much have to start alllll over. I'm learning little bits of Python (3.0) and once I get Fedora 10 running on this sucker (partitioned: XP/Fedora) it's full steam ahead. I'm thinking I'm going to leave this computer partitioned for now until I get back home and then I'll use this laptop 100% with Linux - if all goes well.
And that's my story.
Aloha!

I got into Linux when my Leg was busted. Took a while to learn as I am a Just a GED grad type dude. Now I'm glad I decided to learn something new, and my skill levels with computers has improved. The word, DUH, is becoming less and less used in my vocabulary. Good luck with Fedora amlinuxdummy. What popped my cherry was Mepis.
