    hi,

    i give up! i installed java, linux sees it, but it still wont work. tried config, enable, still dont work! installed a hp 4215 printer, linux sees it, sees the print queue, jobs spool to the queue, yet the printer will not print! this is redundant! ive read forums and literature til im going blind. nothing will work. oh well, i tried...bob

    If you haven't done so already, you should probably try a few other distros if you can in your spare time. Some distributions can certainly be more "new user friendly" than others. Either way, anyone that tries Linux will, as a general rule, end up trying it again sooner or later, so perhaps things will go better for you the next time around.

    You're probably really close to success on that printer. I too am running FC10, & I have one of the Photosmarts, a C5580. I downloaded & installed hplip from the HP Linux Imaging & Printing website, but that didn't cut it. So I pulled down hpijs, hplip-gui, hplip-lib, and libsane-hpaio from the repos and installed them also. I unplugged and replugged the usb cable just to see if things would be properly detected & identified. They were. The printer practically set itself up. I hope this helps. If not, post back.
