I am still using Ubuntu but I keep around some live CD's that include Zenwalk, Knoppix, Puppy, and Fedora Core. I have been trying to test BSD based live CD's...

Distro wars revisted
The funny thing, most of us have tried several flavors because of "problems" with our current distro. The better we got at fixing those problems, the longer we stayed with a distro until we settled into a distro that "worked".
Of course they all work, and if your willing to spend the time, they will all do the same things. They all run on the same kernel, use the same windowing system. That said, I use Slackware and if you don't, I'm obligated to publicly denounce you as a
1: Security threat
2: Luddite
3: GUI addict
3: Script kiddie
4: Black Hat
(Yes I know, I used three twice)
Please assign yourself whichever insult you find least disconcerting coming from a total stranger and hopefully we can all get past this one day.
Thanks
Dijetlo.
PS: Slackware has it's own religion...suck on that Debian!

If it was strictly by the package manager, I'd vote for Deb, since the apt system is quite efficient.
However, dealing with the various configurations, I've made no secret that my favorite distro is SuSE, providing the system has the capability to run it smoothly.
Lacking the resources to run a modern SuSE, I find XUbuntu acceptable. I however would not want to be a noob installing *buntu and not have all the hardware work right right away.

BTW: can I make a 3.15: Menu Driven Addict? I don't necessarily need a GUI, but I do like a central menu of options to work from, with of course, the option to drop to cli.

No, that would just be another three. Besides which, I'm not sure "Menu Addict" evokes sufficient visceral loathing....oh hell, just go with three, it makes the whole system work better. You of all people should understand the constraints of menu options.BTW: can I make a 3.15: Menu Driven Addict? i will always have a special place in my heart for DEB, as that's what i started with.
however, i've been experimenting a lot this year, mostly with minimal Debian, CRUX, and Arch, and above all, I think CRUX is my favorite.
Interested in trying Fedora, though, for one reason or another...who knows?
- 02-24-2009 #28So... since I prefer CRUX, I guess I gotta be proud of my 'script-kiddie' label? Especially since we all know CRUX is all GUI based!!!That said, I use Slackware and if you don't, I'm obligated to publicly denounce you as a

Mind you, not to be drawn in by any flame-bait!

Number 3, that seems to be my most popular insult....
Oh by all means, let's keep this civil, right up to the point bob orders his slackhead minions to eat you heretical kernel jockeys, we can be friends. Just fair warning, when the subgenius rings the dinner bell, all bets are off.
It really stinks being a techno moonie but at least I got fluxbox to spit up some faux transparent rxvt terminals, I'll figure out if that was worth my immortal soul later....
