    newbie to linux

Hello all and best of the holiday season. I'm planning to convert one computer to Linux and I'm very pleased to find a source of information on the subject, I'll be needing a lot of it. I've been computing with PC since the old XT and I'm anxious for a new adventure with Linux. The computer in question is a home made mid tower with an ASUS M2N-SL1 main board and an AMD Athlon 64X2 black edition 5000 CPU. If anyone here has converted this equipment I'd love to hear about it.

Not that particular one but I have had various Linuxii ( ) running on several Asus mobo's with no problems at all

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

If you check out my sig, you'll see that my main computer has a somewhat similar mobo and processor to yours, and I've had no real problems with it.

Normally the most problematic pieces of hardware are graphics cards and network devices. Can you give us your specs on those?

    thanks for the welcome

This should be fun. As for the time dilation, time is digital. The duty cycle can be estimated by the difference in strength between gravity and the other three forces. Gravity dilutes because it exists in all dimensions simultaneously. Thanks for the welcome guys and/or gals. I'm sure I'll learn a lot here. haven't' installed Linux yet, still waiting for the DVD, but have been downloading drivers so they will be there when I need them.

    DVD of what distro?

(also its far quicker to download and burn yourself)

and about the motherboard, as long as you get the right architecture (i386, i686, x86_64, PPC) it should be fine.

    which platform

I ordered the open SUSE 11.1 platform. the DVD was $59 and it includes a lot of software so I thought it well worthy the price. My one concern is all the windows software I already have like Sony video editing, coreldraw, microsoft office and adobe photoshop. As you can imagine, this represents a substantial investment. I hope I can find good video editing software for linux since that and writing are my primary concerns. Open office is included in the package, that should cover the MS office. As for video editing, i'll just have to wait and see.
