I know you've heard this before. I'm New here, lol

    Hello everyone,

Yep, I'm fairly new to Linux still but I'm learning alot.

Since I've been in computers since I was 12, My first computer was a VIC-20, Then got a C-64, lol

Anyway, Ive always been a Windows guy, I can still build ya a computer in less then a hr.

This Linux is WOW, Kinda cool !, My first install of it was mandrake way back, and never got it to look ok aka:system fonts, Well I guess I got it to my liking, Because I remember telling myself back about 12yrs that wait until they get up to around version 10 or 11.

    Indeed !

I'm on openSUSE 11.1 and It seems to be working better then XP

I finally learned fonts and Put M$ fonts in, they were noarch 17MB. I'm using Verdana as system fonts so I can get some decent looking system fonts etc. (89DPI:Greyscale:No-Hinting)

I'm still learning and always will be it seems with Linux, It's alot of fun actually. (I actually found a 1/2 decent game, Vendetta)

I see we've been playing with the alias command

don't know why so many people stick with dir over ls... it's an extra letter... after ten years of dir over ls you'll be seven times more likely to suffer from carpal tunnel.

    Kidding...

Nice! I also like SUSE 11.1 a lot...

Welcome to the forum dude. I'm a C64 fan myself too

Cool hint for your eyecandy, if you enable Compiz you can get genuine transparency in your terminal. Sure, it does nothing useful at all but you might as well get some use out of that nVidia card when you're not playing Tremulous

On the bright side cls will save you two letters over clear... but i think when you factor in how often ls/dir is used over clear/cls you'll still see you're overworking your fingers w/ the dos commands

    There's a clear command?!

    I always use ctrl+L !

Also try ctrl+R for reverse lookup of your history, ctrl+U to jump to the start of the line and ctrl+D to logout. There are lots more but those ones I use every day.

That sucks...we'll have to get that sorted for you

Try the official nVidia driver. In the meantime if you get a hard freeze you can safely reboot by holding Alt+SysRq and typing R S E I U B

I know that sounds mental but you're giving the kernel direct instructions to allow you to unmount and then reboot. It is a bit of a stretch to type it but who'd want to hit those keys by accident

Yup, clear works good, but thanks for the Ctrl L, that rocks bigtom, I also didn't know about the Ctrl R, I always just used the "history" command.
