Sommers & Spielberg to remake "When Worlds Collide"

For those who follow these things, director Steven Sommers is set to remake the '50's sci-fi classic, "When Worlds Collide". Sommers biggest claim to fame at this point is his direction of the 1999 remake of "The Mummy". Steven Spielberg is also going to be in on this, as one of the producers. The cast remains unknown, and probably unconfirmed, at this time.

I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high, but if things played out just right, and everyone involved gave it their very best, this could be a modern day classic. Where Armageddon was basically a poorly conceived long-form music video, "Worlds" could be something special. The premise is similar, but the focus following that premise was very different in the book, and in the original "WWC". I guess we'll need to wait and see. A lot of things, good and bad, could happen in the interim. Space oriented sci-fi could use a good kick in the ass right about now, though.

    thanks for the alert...

Hopefully, they will go with storyline over mounds of special effects and glitter. Otherwise, it will likely turn out to be another dud like so many other Hollywood remakes.

I've never even seen the original and I'm still dissapointed by that news.
