    hello there! Omni here!

Hello everyone, something short and simple about me:
College student, emergency medical technician, lab technician (researcher), mixed martial artist (and big fan of the sport ).

    Switching from windows because:
My laptop is my lifeline. It has too many important things: research papers, essays, e-books, saved reports, etc. etc. I've worked very hard and I am continuing to do so to get to where I want to be. Despite what Microsoft says, Windows isn't helping me do that. I am a highly computer literate person and I do what I can to keep my laptop running smoothly, but in spite of that, things always tend to break apart with Vista.

It's total crap. I can't run anything without their retarded security feature prompting me to allow it. slow as hell, eats up unnecessary RAM, drains my laptop battery life at a very fast rate.

After trying the beta for Windows 7, this is all I'm going to say: It is SH*T, just like Vista, except maybe a little prettier and shinier.

I'm done with windows...like you guys say, a computer is suppose to work for me, not the other way around.

    Welcome!

Interesting name you've got there. I was a big fan of the publication when it was in circulation.

Your sentiments concerning windows are a common theme for new posters. I think once you've spent some time acclimating to linux, you'll find it up to the task for most, if not all, of your needs. I ended my dependence on windows a year ago, when I found OpenOffice would allow me to work with Office 2003 documents from the system at work. It's a good feeling, after being pummelled, coerced, and extorted by the gang from Redmond, to finally be free. I hope you enjoy your time here at LFO.
