    Is Linux for blondes?

    Hi All,
Ma husband and I are missionaries living in Germany and working in 13 countries.
I have been using computers since Sinclair ZX 81, but I am still foxed by Linux. I guess I got lazy with Windoze. In May I had a computer meltdown and someone gave me an old computer but I had all sorts of problems with the Windoze XP OS. I found a OpenSUSE magazine in English in one of the bookshops while traveling and I decided to try it. It has taken me since May to get basic things working. Most of the problem is me I guess. I am learning German, learning a new culture and new foods, new spelling and so I don't really have the strength for a new computer language...LOL Little things set me back weeks...LOL I still have not ventured into Konsole. If I can't download it from YAST I don't need it at the moment. Maybe some day soon I will take the time to really learn Linux but I am not holding my breath.

    Thats about all,
If you have questions just ask.

    Blessings,
    Jeanne

You're kind of closing yourself off if you're only interested in playing with ONE version of Linux. There are hundreds to choose from. If SuSE confuses you, why not try Ubuntu or Fedora? They are both available for free online and Ubuntu will even ship you a burned CD for no charge (though it does take a while to get there).

The contrary has happened to me. 2,5 years that I am using Linux, I did not have to hunt down viruses, defrag my disk, remove spyware/adware/malware/*ware or fix registry pronlems... Linux has made me soooooo lazy...To compensate for that, I try to learn new things like application servers, virtualization, etc.

Ah, German cuisine... probably the best kept secret in Europe. Doesn't get half the recognition it deserves. But if you get the chance to enjoy the Deutsche Gastfreundlichkeit, you will know what I mean. I envy you The language is hard to learn though. Harder than Linux in any case

    Anyway, welcome to the forums!
