    I miss my Linux already...

I work as a software developer. I know how to make Gnome and KDE software but as you would guess most of my clients request Windows applications. I have been using Linux since Red Hat 3. I moved to Fedora, someone then showed me Ubuntu and I then moved to Ubuntu myself. I write my Windows applications in a virtual machine with Windows in it, as I love my Linux!

It was time to upgrade and I thought I would splash on some good gear. I had purchased all the latest products at the time such as nForce 790i, Intel QX9770, nVidia 9800GX2. When I built this computer I was still using Fedora, and the computer would freeze in X. This was happening to frequently and decided to move to Ubuntu. The freezing was not as frequent but still there.

In the last few days of me using Linux (4 days ago), I had 3 separate occasions of X freezing within 30 minutes. I decided to put on Windows 7 just as a test to see if it was Linux or I had bought faulty hardware. I have not turned my computer off since then Windows 7 installation and it is still running. This would have never been possible in Linux even for 1 day.

Windows 7 is nice but I really want my Linux back. This beast of a computer had never seen Windows except for a virtual installation, and I have been really proud of that. I really need my computer to be stable for work and with all of the freezing in X, I lost a 1T HD. This just happened to be my work HD. I back up all projects but it is not nice losing a drives data.

I had some threads in this forum, nVidia’s forum and others about my problem when I was trying to resolve it and save Linux, people did reply but I was unable to fix the problem.

I will try Linux again in some time.

Sometimes, newer or certain hardware can be problematic but new drivers are released or included with kernel releases all the time, so do try again when you have some spare time and with any luck maybe things will be good to go for you once again. I think nVidia released some updates just a few days ago, but don't know if they'd fix the freezing issues you describe.

Hope it works out for you the next time around.

Back on Ubuntu, as it is a hardware issue (Still not completely resolved). I could not handle Windows any longer.

I hate how Windows runs at a good speed and over time it gets slower and less stable.
