    cd-rom will not open

If I push the button in the front of my computer for my cd-rom drive to open up the light blinks and the draw does not come out. I went to root in suse 10 and clicked eject for the cd-rom and again the light just blinked instead of staying on and the draw stayed closed.

I am wondering if removing my windows xp os had anything to do with this or if there is just a bad connection or if I need to have the drive cleaned or replaced.

    Any thoughts about this, please?

    It's jammed.

Look if there is a small hole on the face, one millimeter in diameter. If so, stick a needle in it. This will override the lock and it should spring open.

It might be because it's mounted. If there is an icon for it on your desktop or in your file manager, right click and select unmount or eject.

I think it that case eject would have complained.

    From the eject man:
"If the device is currently mounted, it is unmounted before ejecting."

You could be right, I have just re-read Cousin Lucky's original post and it seems he tried that in Suse. I missed that on the first read.

Thanks Gentlemen!! A paperclip got the draw unlocked. I sprayed some graphite in there and it worked for a while then got stuck again. What makes it do that?
I put a cleaner cd in and ran it; but the tray stuck once again.
I found a little plastic piece on the underside of the tray where the hole is that looked like a catch and put a little silicon lubricant on it. Tray works fine now. Thanks Again!!
