I call a long distance phone call last night from a friend who asked me how my website moved up on yahoo and google to the second listing on the first page. I thought it was some kind of put-on; but it is true. How do the search engines go about ranking their listings?

There are not any ads at all on my website. Perhaps it was my website designer labeling it " paynal homepage ' that brought it from obscurity to prominence or maybe it was New York Mayor Bloomberg's aides getting calls and questions from reporters.
