Hi all,

I am a Debian follower since 1998 and I am doing some "borderline" experiments with Knoppix to create a "very personal computer" that you can carry with you in a pen drive (or better a 2.5" USB drive) and borrow any personal computer you can put your hands on in order to have your virtual "very personal computer" up and running on top of Knoppix.

I have the need to give to my beloved users the possibility to carry their office (Windows XP) computer home without giving them a laptop (too expensive) but using the HW that they already have home in order to startup a virtual PC with the desktop that they use at the office, and I have found that Knoppix + a virtualization environment can solve this problem very brilliantly since Knoppix self-configure on the fly at startup and allow my users to have a consistent Linux desktop up and running regardless the physical specs of the HW they are using (either the office PC or the home PC or someone else PC). The Linux X desktop is used to launch the virtual PC that contains all their data.

Currently I am facing some Knoppix configuration bugs that prevent the smooth functioning of this experiment and as long as I find the problem (and possibly the solution) I will post it in this forum with the hope to be of some help to the rest of the community.

If you have similar experiences and want to share them, please post them. They will be very appreciated.

For instance I need to find the cheaper all-in-one motherboard that allows me to run Knoppix seamless (no extra driver to install) and having all the major peripherals recognized (LAN card, Audio, 3D accelerated Video card).

If you have some suggestions, please share your experience.

Thanks

Marco
