Thumbs up Slackware Linux 12.2 "rescued" my machine !

[Following is my success story I like to share...please skip it if not interested]

Hi Guyz, I am part time Linux enthusiast. Tinkled with it when I was in college 9 yrs ago. But mostly I was hooked on to Windows based PCs.

Now I had this PC from HP/Compaq which I purchased in 2004. One fine day about a year ago it crashed & I had to reinstall the WinXp home (from the original MS cd !!). but to my horror, it did not have the drivers for my network card !! Then after many months of trying to get the problem solved by HP customer care , I got hold of LinuxforYou magazine which had the Slackware Linux 12.2 DVD included.

(The HP cust care guy just kept on asking me for the EXACT model number label under the hood, behind the CPU ...grrrrr to track my lost drivers!!)

Anyway , I finally installed Slackware Linux 12.2 and Voila...the machine is working in pink health . I am able to work again , surf the internet & listen to music.

Keep it up Linux ...you are the poor man's OS but no less smarter than the likes of MacOS,WinXP,WIn Vista (read nightmare!....still haven't finished downloading updates ....@#@$#$??)

BTW, my installation & setup experience was very smooth. I strongly recommend Slackware Linux to anybody who is stuck in my situation.

    - Cheers, M2k9
