Thanks.

There are two things I don't like about gaim. One is that one cannot login as invisible. You have to login iand then go invisible. The other is that it does not have a sound for new email. Both of these functions are still missing with the new release.

If I am wrong, please let me know.

As far as I know, you can set any sound you like for any action you like. Do you mean that it doesn't have an official "Gaim" sound for it? I usually change the Gaim sounds to AIM sounds anyway...

As far as I know, it is impossible for a sound to play when I receive an email. BTW - I use Yahoo an not AOL.

That doesn't matter. Download the Yahoo sounds if you like. If you want integration with your Yahoo Mail you're going to have to use the Yahoo client or look for a Gaim plugin, AFAIK.

I have started a new thread asking for help.

http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/topic-25062.html

I thought it would be more appropriate there than here.

Gaim is nice, but it definately has a few things that I like in AIM better.

First off, the away message window in AIM is much nicer, you can disable sounds AND windows, and new message windows get contained in the away message box.

Second, all the fonts are smaller for some reason. When I started using Gaim I had trouble reading stuff because it was so small.

Really those are minute problems, and I will use Gaim over AIM because, well... it isn't AIM

i tried using Kopete in SuSE9.1 since it didn't come with gaim. It didn't work for me though. I would try to conncect, and it would tell me that people signed in, but it wouldn't show anyone in my buddylist.
