Ixquick, google/yahoo alternative
I found ixquick earlier today, it's a danish search engine that doesn't log your ip address or search info, and only has two cookies that are anonymised and last for 90 days, assuming you don't delete them.
ixquick.com
They also support https and have a option that lets you change image search to by proxy, so you dont have to load the images from the website directly unless you go there.

It's now my default Firefox Search Engine. I'll be spreading the word on this one. Thanks

It appears that the new name for ixquick.com is StartPage.com:
startpage.com Search Engine
Either domain still seems to be working fine for searches, though.oz

ixquick is startpage - but is it just a ploy for more hits ?
ixquick and startpage are the same according to the website. I have been using ixquick for a while now and have no problem at all remembering the web address
... can't help thinking this is just a ploy for more hits ... typing startpage in firefox brings up the startpage webpage

Not sure what the reasoning behind it is, but I personally tend to prefer the ixquick name.

So I read this thread and using ixquick.com I looked up paynal which was first with six stars ( whatever that means ) so I like it already. I am going to set up a Seamonkey profile just for it.

ixquick vs startpage
It appears that they chose to go with StartPage.com on July 7, 2009:
http://www.startpage.com/eng/press/p...cement_st.html
I do hope they'll continue allowing the use of Ixquick.com instead because I like it better, and have been using it as my default search engine for a few days now. Google feels faster, but I'm not too keen on the way they try to track so much of my online activity.oz
