What's better for running Windows software in Linux, Wine or Windows VMware?

What are the differences, advantages, and disadvantages?

Seeing as how Wine can be a crap-shoot on performance, I would have to go for VM.

    You can also try Virtualbox.
It has 2 versions. An open-source and a proprietary.
The proprietary has a few extra features:Remote Display Protocol (RDP) Server,USB support,USB over RDP,Serial ATA controller.

    Hi,
I like virtualbox as it was a sight more easy to setup than vmware, but then I know next to nothing about networking, and setting up vmware in ubuntu needed a truckload of the stuff.

If you do decide to check the free virtualbox out - and there is (as far as I can tell) a near universal agreement that it is a Good Thing then be prepared for some hacking to get usb support on line. This link from ubuntu unleashed (excellent resource) may help:
