Dumped Vista
Afternoon All
I bought the wife a new laptop about a year ago and it came with Windows Vista, I hated it then and I hate it still.
I found working with vista to be so annoying I just switch my wife to Linux. My wife doesn't use her lap top for much and seeing I had been playing with Linux since the beginning of this year and all the applications that she needs I have already played with.
Acer Aspire 4720Z Mandriva 09 with KDE, I already had the wife using Firefox as well as Skype and the jump from Office to Open Office too was seamless, the only real switch (if you can even call it that) going from Power DVD to Xine and going from Picture Publisher to Gwenview
It took me about 4 hours ( a few mistakes but found all the answers I needed here) audio issues and DVD play all the same problems everyone seems to have. But it's done everything she needs she has and she even likes the wallpaper options.
This is the 2nd(of 3) to be committed to Linux ( this laptop and my play computer) and I am SSSOOO impressed with this, this laptop does EVERYTHING it did before including DVD and web-cam.
Anyways this post is to actually thank this community for all the help it gave me with out even knowing it.
Keep up the good work all

Welcome AFM and well done on getting up and going. I often wonder about cases like yours. I have a few other hobbies myself but I'm quite lazy about signing up to other forums. However I do get all of my answers and some new ideas from older threads. So it's cool to see that there are readers out there other than members.
Well done again and I hope to see you around the forums

Welcome to the forums, AFM ... and I hope that Linux continues to be a great experience for you and the wife!
