Arrow I'm switching from Ubuntu to anything lite. What do you recommend?

    Hi all,

I'm sitting here using Ubuntu 9.04 right now, and everything is working fine. I've used Ubuntu since november 2008 now, after i managed to delete my XP-partition. And boy, am i glad that happened.

So, i'm getting tired of Ubuntu and the "malware" and stuff on it. So i'm looking for a lite, new distro. I don't think i'm quite ready for Arch yet, but does it exist a lite distro without all this programs i'm not using. Such as OpenOffice and stuff. As long as the wifi, graphics and sound-drivers are in place, i don't care which distro you guys recommends.

Hi, and welcome to the LinuxForums!
What do you actually want from your distro?
If you need a CD/DVD catalogizer, give a try to my program:

    Thanks

What i want/wish is a very lite distro, that doesn't use that much RAM and CPU like Ubuntu. It must be fast, and have alot of modding potential. I'm not a noob, but i'm still a amature, so any repository like Synaptics in Ubuntu would be nice, since i haven't learned that much commands yet, exept the basic stuff. The installation must be easy. That excludes Arch i guess. But i guess Arch + easy installation and configurations would be nice.

And btw, i'm not a fan of KDE, so anything else would be nice. KDE = Too much bling bling for me :P

Give a try to the new PuppyLinux. It's simple, fast as lightning. It doesn't have great variety of programs, but it's amazing. If you like you can install it, or drop it.

Vector is based on Slackware. If you want Synaptic with a lite Desktop. I use Linux Mint 6 RC1 or Antix 8 for that and they both come with Synaptic. Ubuntu also come with Fluxbox and Xfce in your current install inside synaptic. Do a search for either that you wish to use and install through there. I also use LXDE and Enlightenment in Ubuntu also.

Hey, and thanks for the reply. So the thing now is that it tried to install CrunchBang from my USB-stick (i'm using Aspire One A150 without CD-ROM) without any luck. I think my USB-stick is nearly broken.

So, after thinking a bit, i went in Synaptic and started to remove unwanted stuff like OpenOffice, some languages etc. and ended up deleting over 1GB of systemfiles and stuff.

So, i'm feeling a little bit lighter now, so i'm looking for a good (and light) window manager. I don't like KDE, so no thanks. I like Gnome, but i'm tired of it, i've tried Openbox, and liked it a littlebit, and i've tried Pekwm, Fluxbox and LG3D.

Is there some other popular window managers out there?

    Thanks in advance

Like I said LXDE is a option. You just have to add to your software sources list

    Code:
    deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/lxde/ubuntu hardy main
    deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/lxde/ubuntu hardy main
