My opinion is I don't like links that go to ad's instead of the article.

The ads every time you changed pages were disgusting. It's an interesting format for a discussion (commentating a fake fight) but in the end they came up with the same conclusion countless other people have come up with: they're functionally equivalent. Nothing to see here. Moving on.

Sorry about the ad thing, I couldn't find a way to bypass it, but I use adblock+, so all I see is a gray screen that says "wait nn seconds or click here now" to go to article.

As for the results, I agree, kind of anti-climactic; I was more interested on the format.

I agree, Moe. Amusing way to present the article, but nothing new here.

That's why I use AdBlockPlus. At least the page is blank, which while disconcerting, is not nearly as irritating as the ads they serve up.

Anyway, the article was qt (sic). I am currently using KDE 3.5.4 (CentOS 5.3), and while I will likely upgrade to KDE 4 eventually, it won't be until I'm sure it has filled the gaps in functionality that it still has, and Qt-4 is more robust. I prefer KDE to Gnome, but that is just a personal look-and-feel thingy. In any case, I think the office software point is irrelevant since most people will be installing and using OOo. That given, according to the article's measurements, KDE won the match...

It really is all hype and a fresh-air story.

No way is it any kind of 'final' contest.

And it sure isn't a 'Smackdown'.

I didn't think much of the article's outcome, but that's for the link all the same. I tried KDE4 again the other night and I'm still not likely to switch to it anytime soon.

I've really become used to Gnome now in the time I've been using it. I'm not sure if I'm keen on the upcoming Gnome-Shell in Gnome 3.0 but I'll give it a try. I applied Ubuntu's Dark Dust theme last night and was quite happy with it. I set up KDE's colours to match so that they all look like native applications in Gnome. Surprisingly Evolution let me down by not following Gnome's colour scheme in its icons.

Well, after the new colour scheme it occured to me that I'm quite happy with my desktop now and not looking for new features. The most exciting new technology in Linux for me at the moment is the upcoming Kernel Mode Setting. That should provide a flicker-free boot and allow switching to VTs more quickly and without the mode change. Put that together with the Plymouth and Wayland projects and you've got some pretty interesting new tech on the way

Has anyone tried the KDE4 remix for Arch? or the Chakra project? I was very impressed with how well it ran. The only major issue I had is when i tried to unmount a flash drive, plasma killed itself. But yet again, I was using a computer that has had many a hardware issue.
